PHILIPS 30PW9100 HDTV

The PHILIPS PROBLEM PARADE rolls on!

Photos below show a new defect which appeared the day after set received its first warranty service. These defects appear when watching standard NTSC broadcasts in ANALOG mode. The problem manifests itself as a pair of very thin lines running all the way across the picture. The spacing between these lines remains fixed at roughly one-half of the height of the screen. Both lines slowly move up the screen, and as the first one disappears off the top, it will reappear shortly on the bottom to repeat its eternal trek. Symptom is very similar to the old classic 60 hertz "hum bars", although it seems to appear and disappear at will related to program content, brightness, etc. Prior to "service", analog picture was fine. These photos were taken on Feb 5th, 2006, after second warranty "service" was performed.

The difference between the TV's refresh rate and the camera's shutter speed can cause various artifacts in the photos which may appear as lighter or darker bars or stripes. To avoid confusion, I have identified the actual picture defects with arrows.
